My cry for help is about the steamboat CHAMMA. She was built as yard No. 749 by Simpson, Strickland & Co and according to their Register of Craft Part 2 (as checked on The Dartmouth Archves site) launched in May 1909. She was built of composite mahogany and measured 40' x 8' x 4'3". The boat was ordered and presumedly delivered to A. C. de Freitas & Co, a shipping company in Hamburg.

Now, the challenge here is to find out what the vessel was built for. The unlikely name CHAMMA doesn't give any clue as to whether she was meant to be some kind of work boat or whether she was built for pleasure. Can anyone help me solve this mystery?

Thanks and regards,
Geoff
