Thats going to look brilliant in the boat.
Direct drive?

This engine will be direct drive to 44 inch diameter paddlewheels, similar to the original sidewheeler setups.
My last steamboat had an enclosed crankcase, so only the flywheel rotation was visible when running. This engine should provide lots of "eye candy" when running.

Dear Fred,
I THINK I can see two lever-driven pumps to the left of the cylinder, presumably boiler feed and bilge (or both feed?); to the right of the cylinder is another pump rod-driven from the beam ( I presume this is an air pump.) Is the assembly to the right of this a lubrication pump?
Are the paddles going to be feathering?

Walking Beam Engine Details The steam cylinder is painted black in the picture, wood lagging not yet installed. Immediately to the left are the steam admission valves, driven from a rockshaft, which is mounted on two brass/copper columns, a little further to the left. Valves use Marshall-Bremme valve gear. The cylinder to the right of the steam cylinder is a wet vacuum pump, to remove condensate and maintain a vacuum in the condenser. Further to the right is the boiler feed pump, mounted on two brass/copper columns.
